Running The Asylum – Sarasota Property Management Tales From the Trenches
Sometimes being a Sarasota property manager feels like being the, “chief in charge of the asylum” 🙂 Tenants are an interesting lot — while 90% are nice, sane, pleasant people, that last 10% can sometimes make you feel like the inmates are running the asylum, if you don’t take firm control!
Of course you occasionally have the tenant who thinks it’s perfectly okay to party loudly into the wee hours, but that’s normal stuff. There are other things that make you laugh, and others that leave your jaw gaping, and you speechless.
Here are a few Sarasota property management tales:
- The nice little-old-lady who is livid, because you will not buy her a new oven, since the one she has is not browning her Christmas cookies evenly. She is sure that this is a “maintenance” issue that she is entitled to and that we are “horrible” landlords for neglecting the property.
- The woman who is certain that her water contains a foreign substance that needs to be “fixed.” Unfortunately, it is city water, and nobody other than this woman, including a certified plumbing contractor, is able to see this “foreign” substance.
- The prospective tenant who is absolutely livid that they’re application was not approved. “You never said that we had to have jobs and income! We are looking for jobs now!”
I could go an and on, but suffice it to say that a firm grip on the reigns is required to stay sane in this business. Always professional, but never afraid to defend the owner’s interests, is the way to stay sane and keep a clear conscious working in Sarasota property management.
